What is Two-Factor Authentication, you ask? In a nutshell, it means that when you login with your username (or email address) and password, a second step will follow to complete the login process successfully. This can be anything from using a QR code (i.e. on your mobile phone) to heading to your email and getting a verification code, or perhaps filling a special word or security question.
You may think that just a password is good enough, but this is not necessarily true. Even in the event that you are following good practices and are using different passwords for each online account you have, what happens if your password gets exposed? Perhaps your computer is infected with a virus which steals passwords (i.e a keylogger). Or, maybe you’re just unlucky and someone guesses your password.
If the above events turn out to be true, someone else now has access to your account. They can pretend to be you. They can change your password, cancel your account and so on.
Fortunately, it’s easy to prevent these nasty things from happening by using Two-Factor Authentication (sometimes known as “Two-Step Verification”)!
With DediPath, your account can be secured by using an application on your mobile device (i.e. Google Authenticator) for which a six digit code will be presented to you each time you login. This means that only people with your username and password, and access to your mobile device, will be able to login.
